I figured that because we are in the season of spooks and Halloween is quickly approaching I would give you guys my top must watch anime this Halloween.

This is the perfect anime for anyone who loves gore, blood and guts! The synopsis of the show is about a boy named Koichi Sakakibara transferring into Class 3-3 of Yomiyama Middle School. He then meets a very mysterious girl named Mei Misaki who everyone in the class seems to ignore. Members of his class begin to die in the most horrific and bizarre ways and Sakakibara slowly starts to learn the truth about his mysterious new friend and Class 3-3.
Another is probably one of the most gruesome anime I have seen over the years. It does not hold back in any way when it comes to brutal deaths and is a must-watch to anyone who loves the horror genre.

Shiki

This anime is truly terrifying! I think if I had to give a single horror anime recommendation it would be most definitely Shiki! The story revolves around a small village in a rural part of Japan where an almost plague like outbreak of deaths occur. No one can explain why people in the village keep passing away but it mysteriously started around the same time the Kirishiki family moved into the nearby castle. People in the village begin to investigate the mysterious deaths and what they come across is something truly unholy.
I don’t want to give too much away but I’d say this is a staple horror anime in anyones collection! This is the only anime that has been able to truly disturb me and make me feel physically sick! Shiki lures you in by creating an almost false sense of security and then hits you with horror when you least expect it!

School Live

School Live is an anime that definitely shocked me when I first watched it. The reason being was that I was looking for a cute Moe anime and instead I found School Live. I am not going to go into details with this anime. It’s the kind of show you need to experience first hand. I really enjoyed some of the themes to do with metal health that are included in this anime and found it a highly addictive watch! All I will say is enjoy the cuteness while it lasts!

Ghost Hunt

Although I did not find Ghost Hunt scary in the slightest it is still an amazing and fun watch that is perfect for this time of year! Ghost Hunt is about a high school girl named Mai Taniyama who ends up working for Shibuya Psychic Research who investigate mysterious incidents that may be caused by spirits and other such entities. The story revolves around Mai, her narcissistic boss Kazuya Shibuya (aka Naru the narcissist) and their team. The team consists of a Buddhist monk, a Shrine Maiden, a Catholic priest and a famous celebrity psychic.
I feel like this is a perfect anime if you’re not in the mood for horror and gore but still want something eerie. The perfect paranormal watch for Halloween!

Highschool of the Dead

I feel that Highschool of the Dead is definitely the most mature anime on this list. The best way to sum up this anime is: zombie apocalypse with lots of boobs! Honestly I can’t really sum it up better than that! The story is your typical zombie apocalypse situation with a deadly virus turning humans into the undead. The story revolves around a small group of high school students who are trying to escape from their school and survive.
Although it isn’t the most original of stories it still makes for an entertaining watch including lots of blood, violence and occasional insane boob physics. If you want your typical zombie apocalypse anime with lots of hot anime girls then this is the anime for you!

Tokyo Ghoul

This anime was obviously going to make it onto this list at some point I mean it’s Tokyo Ghoul! Although this is an anime that everyone and their mother has probably seen at this point I still felt that it should make it onto this list. Tokyo Ghoul is about Kaneki Ken who is a sweet booking loving college student who meets a girl named Rize and decides to go out on a date with her. This goes horrifically wrong for Kaneki as Rize turns out to be a ghoul which is a carnivorous flesh eating monster. Kaneki ends up in an accident with Rize and one of his organs are replaced with that of a ghoul. The operation leads to Kaneki becoming a hybrid of human and ghoul and the story follows him trying to adjust to his new life.
This horror anime has become a staple in any anime fans collection and is perfect if you want a horror containing lots of blood, violence and creepy characters. I especially love the creepy and insane characters in this anime. If you want even more from this series I also recommend the manga as the art style is insanely creepy and is sure to strike a chord with any horror fan!

Future Diary

This is a classic anime containing everyones favourite Yandere queen Yuno Gasai! The story is about 14 year-old Yukiteru Amano who is obsessed with recording everything down on his phone. His “friend” who is a God of time and space decides to turn his phone into a “Future Diary” meaning that is can inform Yuki of future actions. This God grants Future Diaries to 12 people and in turn creates a game to the death between the users. The victor becomes the next God. The show follows Yuki and his survival along with his new cute but utterly insane psychotic girlfriend who will do anything and everything in order to keep Yuki as her own.
I decided to put this on my Halloween must watch list because although it isn’t “scary” it is still really creepy and disturbing. Future Diary is jam packed with disturbing content and themes and is perfect if you want something dark and chilling to satisfy your spooky needs!

Parasyte

My final recommendation for Halloween is Parasyte. I thoroughly enjoyed this horror anime as it was dark, creepy and contains some insanely cool monsters! This anime is classed as a Sci-Fi Horror which makes for a really different watch compared to others on this list. The story follows a high school student named Shinichi Izumi who ends up having a worm like parasitic alien enter his body via his arm. The parasites usually try and take over the entire body through the brain but this one could only enter and infect his arm due to him wearing earphones. He then has to share his body (primarily his right arm) with this parasite named Migi (name meaning right in Japanese) and gets caught up with other parasites who have infected people. Both Shinichi and Migi have to work together in order to survive and battle against other parasites.
I think this is a must-watch for any horror anime fan as it contains an interesting story as well as some amazing and grotesque visuals (such as the one above)! Definitely check it out this Halloween!
