This weeks episode properly introduced more of the side characters. It gave time to let all the characters interact with one another compared to episode one where it was pretty much straight into the action with little time to answer all of my burning questions. Hiro has barely any recollection of fighting in the FRANXX with Zero Two. All he knows it that he wants to team up with her again even though it is becoming more and more apparent that he should stay clear of her because she gets her partners killed or badly injured.
A council of sorts have a brief discussion I’m assuming about Zero Two about how she needs to be brought in because of the way she is even though she fought against the klaxosaur, won and saved everyone. There was also a lot of discussion between the newly introduced characters about the incident last episode and their bonds between their partners.
The parasites go out on their first real drill in their FRANXX (with the girls in some strange positions if I might add) and there is a lot of emphasis on how their partners need complete and utter trust in one another and without that things will not work properly. Hiro is left out of drill and when the parasites return a team bump into Zero Two and alienate her because she is not part of their squad.
Hiro is dead set on being able to pilot again and is given another chance through a mock battle in order to possibly make his way up to being a parasite. He has to choose a partner and you guessed it Zero Two volunteers herself since he is her “darling”. Ichigo who is the leader of the squad objects to this and requests to be his partner which is approved. Hiro and Ichigo face of against another team within their squad for this mock battle in order to prove that Hiro can pilot a FRANXX. Hiro managaes to start up the FRANXX but seconds later it disconnects and their FRANXX is left paralysed on the battlefield. Ichigo and Hiro try kissing like Hiro did with Zero Two in order to power back up but it doesn’t work and the other team begin to fight them none the less. The other team have a moment where they become out of sync and Ichigo decides to pilot the FRANXX by herself. Both FRANXX end up being unable to continue as they are inoperable and the battle ends there. The episode ends with Hiro feeling guilty about the kiss with Ichigo and feels tied down again as he is unable to pilot the FRANXX.
I enjoyed episode two as it introduced more characters and we got more interaction with these characters and got to know them better. I feel I got more information out of this episode because I wasn’t making guesses or assumptions like I was with episode one. I have to say as someone who normally stays far away from anything to do with giant robots I can honestly say I love the design of the FRANXX. They just look so cool! Normally I find anything to do with giant fighting robots a massive snooze fest but this has really peaked my interest. Maybe because the robots are quite feminine looking and aren’t clunky like many robots are. They seem more streamlined to me which I like and I enjoy how their faces change to match each of the girls who control the robot. I have to say though the positions of the girls and guys in the robot is pretty dumb. I find it quite degrading that the girls are in such awkward positions compared to the guys but maybe I’m overthinking it. I am still very hopeful on this series and I think so far it has been very good. I find Hiro to be a bit irritating as he has this “woe is me” attitude and I hope he gets his piloting skills back as I think that is when the story will start to really pick up.
What did you think of this weeks episode? Do you agree with what I said or do you have a completely different opinion? I’d love to hear your thoughts down below!
Hope you are having a great day!
