30 Day Anime Challenge: Day 9 – Villains Come in All Shapes and Sizes

Day 9- Best Anime Villian

WARNING SPOILERS!

This post was a struggle. I love villains in all types of media. I think if an anime can create a good, solid villain then they are onto a winner with me. I often find myself loving the villains more than the heroes in shows because the villainous characters are so well executed that it’s often impossible not to love them.

After pondering on my favourites I decided to choose Pride from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Look at this sweet, precious child who will tear you to pieces.

As someone who seems to be a big fan of characters based around the seven deadly sins it’s no surprise that I love characters like Pride. I loved Pride throughout the entire series of Brotherhood. I think the whole evil little boy look just appealed to me because there is something so horrific about evil children. Now, I know Pride is just within a container which happens to look like a young boys body and he passes off as Selim Bradly the Fuhrer son, but the whole look of him to me is awesome. I love how such evil can be contained within such a small body. I find him a truly fascinating character and as despicably evil as Pride is I cannot help but love him as a villain. His ability to use and manipulate shadows is a really interesting power and I love how the shadows contain evil red eyes and toothy smiles. It makes such an interesting touch to his character design and this overbearing element of him contrasts well with his young body.

  1. Yes! I completely agree with you about villains. I almost always love the villains the most if they are constructed well. I think I engage with heroes and their plights all of the time via books, so when I turn to anime I want to experience something different. I also love to pick them apart. Pride, the first time I watched the series, blew my mind! I’ll never forget the shock. It was amazing.

    1. I’m glad you agree! Villains always add something to the show if they are created well. Pride is amazing so I see what you mean! I always thought he was a brilliant character right from the start! His character is an excellent example of a well written villain!

  2. I have the feeling FMA is going to show up a few more times in these as I’m going through them XD As for my favorite, you’ll just have to wait and see when the day comes on my end! 😉
