Day 11- Favourite Mech Anime
WARNING SPOILERS!
Today’s post is going to be pretty short. The reason being is I have only seen one and a half mech anime in my lifetime. The one being Gurren Lagann and the half being Darling in the FranXX. I’d say Darling in the FranXX is my favourite but I feel I cannot because I haven’t completed the series so it wouldn’t be right of me to class it as my favourite yet. At the end of the day Mech anime isn’t really my thing. I don’t do giant robots.
Since FranXX is out I guess I have no other choice but to choose Gurren Lagann. I don’t really have much to say about this anime because for the most part I really did not enjoy it and there were many elements of the shows that I detested. I know this is supposed to be a favourite post but I have very little positives to give this anime. I think one of the biggest reasons I get so salty with this show is the fact that they killed off my favourite character Kamina not even half way through the show who was soon replaced by Nia who I didn’t like at all. I spent most of the anime hoping and wondering if maybe Kamina wasn’t actually dead and he would just randomly show up again alive and well but unfortunately that didn’t happen. To top it all off I ended up hating the ending because I felt so unsatisfied by it all. I have come to the conclusion that on the whole mech anime and I do not mix well.
Why? Why did they have to kill him off?
I feel like this is such a downer in terms of content but hey, I’m just being honest.

Maybe Darling in the FranXX will change my mind about this genre…I mean Zero Two already has me sold.

Oh man, sad to hear you didn’t like Gurren Lagann – it’s my #2 show! I think Kamina’s death was needed for Simon’s development, even though Kamina was my favourite character too. It was somewhat necessary for him to be killed off, otherwise Simon would’ve held back forever.

Yeah sorry it just didn’t do it for me. I know his death was a key element in the show and it’s progress but I was just so damn bitter about it when I saw it 😂 I think also they did the “oh here is a cute ship with Yoko and now let’s just make him die” so that bummed me out too. I think because I was testing the water with that genre when I watched it it just bummed me out and I lost enthusiasm in the show!

Don’t worry you are not alone. TTGL took me several attempts just to complete. There are some good “mech” shows out there but on the large it isn’t my favorite genre either.

I’m glad it’s not just me! I feel like everyone loves this show and I’m just like…meh about it. Yeah I just cannot get into it, it doesn’t seem like it’s a genre for me on the whole 🤔

For “mech” shows that have a lot of other stuff going on you could always give Code Geass or something of that ilk a go. That tends to be up my alley more because the mechs are not the focus.

I have considered Code Geass! I think shows that focus less on the mech side would probably be more of my style! I’ll check it out at some point! Thanks!
