My Most Anticipated Video Games

Since starting a Twitch channel last year, I have found myself getting more and more excited about video games and all of the new releases that are due to come out. I have to say that 2022 is looking to be an extremely exciting year for video game releases and even a couple months into the year we have already seen some awesome releases such as Pokémon Legends Arceus, Horizon: Forbidden West and Elden Ring. Here is a selection of the games I am most looking forward to over the course of 2022! Let me know what you’re most excited to play this year in the comments below!

Breath of the Wild 2

Breath of the Wild 2 is the upcoming sequel to Nintendo’s critically acclaimed 2017 title, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. We don’t have too much to go off in terms of information for this sequel other than it continuing Link’s story in the skies as well as on the expansive plains of Hyrule. Lack of concreate information aside, I’m sure whatever Nintendo has planned will be well worth the wait.

The sequel to The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is one of the most, if not the most anticipated game for Nintendo fans this year. I myself, am extremely excited for this sequel as it is a continuation of the Zelda game I fell in love with. I’ve had my excitement contained for this game ever since it was first announced back at E3 2019 but I know as soon as we get an official release date, my excitement will increase tenfold. I cannot wait to get my hands on this one!

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is the next instalment within the Borderlands franchise. This game however, takes a sharp detour from the usual Borderlands antics and puts players into a Dungeons and Dragons inspired setting…with guns! Inspired by the much beloved DLC Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a fully fleshed out spin-off game for the franchise. Players will find themselves sat around the table with Tiny Tina for a session of Bunkers and Badasses where they can build their own character and set out on a brand new adventure.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands in a game I have been looking forward to for ages now! As someone who got into Borderlands back in 2020 and got into Dungeons and Dragons last year, I have to say the timing for this game is perfect for me! This is one of my most anticipated games for 2022 and I’m so excited to see Tiny Tina take the center stage in a Borderlands game as she is an absolute gem. I’m really looking forward to exploring the new classes and cannot wait to build my own character and explore and try out all of the new weapons, spells and skills which you can unlock!

Mail Time

Mail Time is an indie adventure game filled to the brim with adorable visuals and cottagecore vibes. The game follows a newly trained Mail Scout whose job is to deliver letters all across Grumblewood Grove. Animals of the forest all await their mail eagerly as you platform your way across on a cosy, cottagecore adventure.

I first came across Mail Time on TikTok as the creator promoted it over there and I was immediately sold on the concept and overall aesthetics of the game. I recently played the demo for the game over on my Twitch and had such a blast so I’m extremely hyped for a full release of this game. The demo provided a promising look into what awaits in the full release. Not only is this game filed with adorable visuals and characters but it also features amazing and inclusive customizable features and sweet little messages. Mail Time is going to be such a serotonin boost upon its release!

Pinku Kult Hex Mortis

Pinku Kult Hex Mortis is an RPG set in Razore City, a grim and desolate metropolis with one hell of a problem, demons are everywhere! Players can explore this city and discover what the truth is about all of the bizarre happenings which have enveloped the city and its residents.

I remember when Pinku Kult was just starting out as a clothing brand and to see it grow into being able to develop and release their very own game featuring the characters and world they have built brings me great joy. I love the creepy cute aesthetic of Hex Mortis and I think it’s going to be a a fun little indie game to sink my teeth into with its fun and unique characters and intriguing story. I feel like this would make for a great Halloween release!

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is an action adventure RPG transporting players into the Wizarding World back as it was in the late 19th century. The game will allow players to venture into the famous Wizarding World to begin their own magical journey at Hogwarts and explore all that its world has to offer. Players can pick their own houses, attend classes, explore locations including the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade, learn spells, brew potions, befriend magical creatures and write their own legacy.

The Harry Potter franchise has developed a divide with fans over the years due to its creator having some very problematic opinions. As someone who grew up with Harry Potter, the franchise does hold a special place in my heart and I have felt very confused about the franchise and how I interact with it over the past couple of years. I even considered excluding Hogwarts Legacy from this list but deep down, I do feel such genuine excitement for this game and really wanted to discuss it in this list. The idea of being able to create your own character and bring your own story to life away from the Harry Potter storyline is something which I think any Potterhead has been waiting to experience. As a Slytherin, I really like the idea of going completely against the evil Slytherin stereotype and hopefully Hogwarts Legacy will allow me to live out this dream!

The Outlast Trials

The Outlast Trials is the next instalment in the Outlast series. This time, the survival horror game can be played both alone or with friends online as you fight to survive the horrifying and sadistic experiments of the Murkoff Corporation. This time around, the twisted tale of horror is set during the Cold War era enlisting unwilling human participants to be guinea pigs in brainwashing and mind control methods.

Outlast is a franchise I have loved for many years now and it holds a special place in my heart when it comes to the horror genre. This next installment to the Outlast franchise is going to be an interesting one since The Outlast Trials has both single and multiplayer capabilities. I’m sure whatever horrors The Outlast Trials has in store for me, it will be truly disturbing and pure nightmare fuel. I can’t wait!

Scorn

Scorn is an atmospheric first-person survival horror game heavily inspired by the works of H.R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński. This biopunk themed game invites players to play as a skinless humanoid creature who finds themselves lost on a nightmare fuelled planet. This planet is filled with ghastly creatures and structures formed with a mixture of organic materials such as flesh and bone alongside tech.

I remember watching a Let’s Play of Scorn’s demo quite a while ago and was instantly intrigued by the game’s atmosphere and aesthetics. The gruesome, Giger inspired biopunk aesthetic is the main selling point of this game and I cannot wait to give it a go upon its release. The aspect of being very aware of the inventory and ammo you carry is a great feature of the game as I think it’ll add that extra fear factor whilst playing. Plus, the organic, fleshy looking gun is such an intriguing design just to add that extra layer of gore and disgust!

GhostWire: Tokyo

Ghostwire Tokyo is a single player action adventure game set in the heart of Tokyo. Players find themselves in a Tokyo where its residents have vanished and supernatural spirits known as Visitors have begun invading the city. Ghostwire Tokyo’s protagonist Akito is possessed by a spirit detective named KK who has granted him supernatural abilities in order for him to fight and defeat these ghostly visitors.

A game set in modern Tokyo where you have to fight Japanese spirits and urban legends? Sign me up! I only had to see the promotional image to be 100% sold on playing Ghostwire Tokyo. This game feels like a fresh take on the first person shooter genre as you have all of the action of fighting enemies but it has replaced guns with Kuji-kiri inspired hand gestures which cast spells to take down enemies. I have pretty high hopes for Ghostwire Tokyo so fingers crossed it lives up to my expectations!

Stray

Stray is a third person adventure which follows a stray cat who finds himself in a world filled with robots, machines and viruses and sets out on a quest to reunite with his family. Stary allows players to solve puzzles such as traversing platforms and moving obstacles in order to progress with the story’s narrative. Players will also be accompanied by a drone companion who can help assist you in finding your way home.

I’m really looking forward to checking out this game when it releases. The idea of being able to play as a cat in such a unique setting is fascinating. I have a feeling this game will encourage players to think like a cat in order to solve problems which will make for some interesting gameplay. I think this game is going to be a hit with cat lovers and owners alike and I’m very excited to play as a sassy little feline with a backpack!

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a great day!

  1. I remember watching a video on Stray several months ago. Exciting that it will be out soon! I’ve also thought about the whole liking Harry Potter thing, and I think that a whole franchise is bigger than one person, as many, many people have worked on creating HP works and products.
